Close but oh so far! Last leg of Amazing Race comes to a close!

It's been fun, but alas the CYP Amazing Race has come to an end. Team IBC has enjoyed the fun and new friends we have made. We have come to the conclusion that we, as a team, need to set our own personal challenges that force us to get out and continuing having fun together! Good luck to all 2008 Amazing Racers!

Leg Three--Gone with the Wind!

Leg three passed so fast! This was a particularly challenging leg for Team IBC--our fall quarter is getting ready to start and we have been busy with finals and orientations for the past several weeks. We were able to pull ourselves away and complete a few challenges and in doing so have come to the understanding that it is great to have a reason to get out and do something fun together.

Leg 2 Wrap Up--Roarin' '20s Party

The Amazing Race wrapped up leg 2 on Thursday, September 4th with a roaring '20s themed party in the courtyard belonging to the Heritage Fund. There was a cool breeze blowing as we all enjoyed wonderful food, great company, and a very tasty gin-based cocktail. The top 5 teams were announced--congrats to The Tri-Tans, Red Bull Fanatics, Local Brews, Damsels, and News Hounds! Rain began to fall and prompted us to move our party indoors--more specifically to a local speakeasy (AKA 4th Street Bar) where we engaged in lively conversation, partook of some hooch, and gave other patrons something to look at!

Team IBC would like to take this opportunity to say thanks to all of the businesses sponsoring the CYP Amazing Race. When we first saw that there was a challenge that consisted of thanking a sponsor it seemed like it might be the easiest challenge of all. After all, how hard could it be to write a thank you note? Well, it took us a while to get around to this challenge--good old procrastination--why do today what can be put off until tomorrow. Then it was a matter of selecting a sponsor to thank. I was scanning over the many sponsors and found myself puzzled by one of the logos listed on the page--Angel Flight Central. Who were these people? Why had I never heard of them before? So I did what anyone would do--I Googled them! It took all of about 30 seconds of reading about Angel Flight Central to know that this was the sponsor we wanted to thank. What a selfless group of people--willing to volunteer their time, equipment, and expertise to assist in transporting patients via airplane so that they can receive the medical attention they need. I had to contact Val at CYP to find out who the local AFC contact was. I would encourage anyone who does not know about AFC to check out their web site--and even if you have already thanked a sponsor, think about thanking this one too!

Bad Hair Day Challenge

Bad Hair Day was indeed a special day for Team IBC. It started off at 5 am with a photo/text message from Jeanni--talk about REAL BAD HAIR! Team IBC had to be in Indy all day for the 17th Annual Awards Day so making it back to Columbus in time to "fix" our hair was a challenge. We were happy we could pull it off and make it downtown in time to sign in and get our number. It was a blast seeing all the bad hair, listening to live music, and giving people something to laugh and smile about! I think I am going to grow my hair out so I have more options next year!

Meditation Challenge

Angie, Aimee, and Charlotte showed up for the Meditation Challenge and I am happy to report--found the location easily. I hated to miss a challenge with my team, but my in-laws were in town. It is probably better that I was not there--I have always suffered with bouts of inappropriate laughter--especially around Ang, Charlotte, and Aimee!

FFY Triathlon

Leg one of the race was a little rocky for Team IBC. Our commitment to making leg two a different story started with the FFY Triathlon.

Let me start by saying that we entered into this challenge with a slight misunderstanding about the full scope of what we were getting ourselves into. In our minds this was going to be a Foundation For Youth event--KIDS were participating, right??? WRONG! This was the real deal--actual athletes where competing--this called for a certain amount of competency on the part of the volunteers. It became apparent early on that this was more than what we had bargained for. I will admit right now that I am directionally challenged--I found out on that Saturday that all of my teammates suffer this same affliction! Needless to say, our participation has spurred conversation into making some changes to next years volunteer orientation, mapping, radio operation instructions, etc.

Although this act of volunteerism did not go off as well as we had planned, Team IBC was happy to be a part of the 13th Annual FFY Triathlon. We hope to assist next year too--that is if we are not banned before then!

4th of July Celebration

Team IBC had a great time meeting other teams at the CYP fireworks celebration. It is becoming painfully obvious that we need to pump up the creativity and bring it full force to each and every event and challenge. I suspect that Charlotte wants to defect and join team Damsels in Success--note the attempt to woo them with her impromptu "damsel" style head wear! Those cones are not light--we suspect that she will be making a visit to Nathan (one Husband from the Husbands and Wife team)Frasier's (one Husband from team Husbands and Wife) Chiropractic office for a minor adjustment on her aching neck!
